Starter working ?

I bought a 1995 Vmax w/33.000 miles on it. It has been sitting for 4 years. The previous owner went legally blind. I removed the spark plugs (left side a little darker than the right side plugs) I squirted some oil into each plug hole. I put a new battery in it and tried to crank it (no plugs in bike). The headlight dims when I hit the start button but other than the v boost cycling there is no sound at all-even if the motor was frozen shouldn't I hear a click or something ??

Hi All

Need some advice. My max has been standing unused for several weeks and now No 1 cylinder is not firing. This has happened before from time to time and it will sometimes gradually come back as I'm riding. This time, however, the problem does not seem to clear.

My first thought was carbs so I removed them for a complete tear down and clean paying special attention to No 1. I couldn't see any dirt or blockages. I used carb cleaner spray and compressed air in...

Hi everyone!

I need to fill in a VIN plate for my Max but unsure of the figures to fill in the blank boxes. Ok Manufacturer is "Yamaha" the other boxes are as follows;
Type (Motorcycle?), Engine capacity,max engine power KW, power to weight ratio, VIN, other

Qiute a while ago I spoke to you all about the facet fuel pump.
Well we bought one. A 40105 2.5-3.5 PSI which self primes.
The max we have is a 1985, with an analogue CPU. The electrical operating circuit for it also comprises a fuel pump relay (located under the left air scoop) and a fuel sender unit (Located inside the fuel tank). The pump currently only seems to run continuously with the fuel pump relay bypassed.

What I wanted to know is:

i just changed my starter moter cos the old 1 was (i think playing up ?) but im now having the same problem the batterys fine fully charged and that is just what it sounds like low battery but it still wont turn the moter over fast enough to start it i have charged the battery just to make sure ? go,s through all the werrrs clicks and noises ? so im thinking maybe the starter solinoid ? cream crackered thanks it,s my only mode of transport at the moment HELP

Put the standard swing arm back on my bike. Only 2 attempts to get the shaft in the correct place was well chuffed... but now I'd got everything back together the swingarm has play "side to side"... I've checked the diagrams... I'm pretty sure the bolts are tight and as far as they will go... bearings are good, and the spacer thing just after the bearsing.... any ideas what I may have missed?...

whilst stripping engine i noticed a small ball bearing on the towel i`m using to stop things falling out and running away on shop floor !

any ideas where it came from ? :-(

gearbox repair

Hi Guys,
My vmax has started jumping out of second gear. I no you can get at the gearbox through the bottom of the engine rather than seperating the crank cases. Has any body attempted this and have you got a rough stupid guide that I could follow. Also has anyone got a gearbox for sale. All advise would be greatly appreciated.

Idle screw

I have a 96 cali vmax and i,m in the process of cleaning the carbs, It looks like where my idle screw is there is like a brass flange with a hole in the centre. Could someone let me know how to get this off so i can get to the idle screw .

Relays! Specifically I want to make some fat bars up for my Maxy and am planning on installing momentary push buttons actuating relays to control lo/hi lights and indi's...........3m dollar question is can anyone point me in the right direction?!! I'm sure my leaky old swede used to contain this kind of info............

I assume there's an upper and lower range, so whats the minimum and ahats the maximum PSI?

CLUTCH HOSE NUT STUCK !!!

Help my nut on clutch hose is stuck. I broke the hose from the banjo fitting...i was being an oaf !! Really annoyed me cos i know have to somehow get the hose nut (other end of bango fitting) undone and it seems well stuck. I have tried hammer and also wd40 and also shouted at it, but its still stuck, does anyone have any tips for removing the hose nut so i can replace the hose and bango fitting.

Hi again guys.

I assume the fuel pump relay, is what Yamaha call the Control Unit Assy (for fuel pump) on their schematics.
Does any one know of a less expensive equivilant or a breaker that might have one for an 85 Max?
OEM is over £97.00. I'm outta money and nearly outta patience with this project now.
I'm getting a little bit tired of being a cash cow for Yamaha.

So if anyone can please help.

Hi Guys
1. Question & 1. Request.

Is the Fuel Sender Unit mere'ly a light to tell you your low on fuel and need to switch to reserve, or does it have anything to do, with the fuel system other than that.

Also if anyone is using an OEM exhaust system could they please post a picture of how the collector box mounts underneath the bike, on the centre lug.

Were building a trike and there were lots of bits missing off of the doner bike, that we've...
